110 days & the walls are closing in…..

I’ve had a busy week with the Planning project, supporting Place’s first live webinar, planning Planning webinars, and setting up the informal comms (via Teams of course) for the Planning project and supporting the Community Shield work.

But there’s a common underlying theme this week. Lots of people I’ve talked to this week are hitting a wall, or as a colleague put it, suffering from ‘four wall syndrome’. We’ve been in the same four walls for weeks (110 days to be exact) working from home, juggling schoolwork and home life, and that’s on top of any Covid related anxiety, and more change as lockdown starts to lift. For some, those four walls are closing in.

We’re only human. It’s certainly hit our house this week — has it hit yours?

If it has, be kind to yourself, give yourself some space. As the saying goes, accept that we have no control over this situation. But we can control how we react. Keep the ways to wellbeing in mind Connect, Be active, Keep learning, Give and Take Notice.

Years back, my mentor and friend gave me a tip. To change your head space, change your physical location. It works! Go for a lunchtime walk, work from the decking not the kitchen table, or even ‘hide from the kids’ at the bottom of the garden. I think I can tick all of those off my list this week!

Another thing that’s kept me going this week is connecting with people. We’ve had a couple of afternoon coffee shops and meetings this week where we’ve all laughed out loud. It’s good for the soul. Thanks for being there guys.

It’s time for the weekend. However you spend it, look after yourselves and stay safe.
